From 29th November 2010, any migrant wanting to obtain a UK visa as the partner of a British citizen or a person settled in the UK, by means of entry clearance or leave to remain will need to show that they can speak and understand English.
If the migrant is not a national of Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States of America, they will need to pass an acceptable English language test with one of the UK Border Agency approved test providers.
